Minecraft Java Edition Will Soon Require A Microsoft Account

After Mojang's acquisition of Microsoft, Minecraft Java Edition has been operating as-is. Bedrock Edition came along to integrate with the Microsoft account system, but Java's been on its own little Mojang account island - until now. Java Edition will soon require a Microsoft account to play however, you'll still receive an exclusive cape for your issues.



You'll have to transfer your Java or Mojang account to the Microsoft account system in the early part of 2021. Mojang claims that this is to introduce two-factor authentication to enhance security. However, it will also permit enhanced parental controls, chat blocking, invitation blocking, and integration of accounts with Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons.



Mojang does not plan to alter Minecraft mods or PvP. Java and Bedrock will continue to be completely distinct games. While you'll be able to use your Java username, you may need to change the account name if you create an account on a Microsoft account. Mojang offers a capethat was once the most exclusive Java Edition item: to make the transition easier. Participating in the migration will get you a free cape. While it won't have the Minecon exclusive patterns however, it will let everyone feel a bit royal.



Although nothing is likely to change, players still have concerns. Among them, the more restrictive terms of service of Microsoft might lead to bans, which could result in some players being shut out of Minecraft.
