Since 1.14 Village and Pillage, Minecraft villages have seen a dramatic change. There's been a complete overhaul of the way that trading is conducted is handled, the item economy, and the jobs each villager takes on. This guide will provide a detailed outline of how to manage your villager's trades. You should be able to identify the best method of obtaining the things you require at the end. Let's get started!

What are the Countless Villager Jobs available in Minecraft?

There are currently 15 villager jobs available in Minecraft. This is a list of the various jobs villagers could be employed in. You can put the job block that matches the job you're looking for next to the Unemployed Villager if you are looking to apply for a job. The villager's work will determine the kind of trade they offer. You can take away a villager's job block if you do not have a villager unemployed. If you are unable to acquire the desired trades from a villager you can remove the job block and then put it again to replenish their trades.

Villager Appearance:

Not only do villager's jobs change depending on their profession however, their appearance will be different in every biome. They keep the characteristics specific to their work so that each job is distinct. For instance Farmers all wear straw hats, and all Librarians have glasses.

Trading Stock:

As of 1.14, Mojang has introduced the wonderful concept of 'Supply & Demand.' This basically means that if you do one specific trade too often and the villager run out of inventory in that specific item, but prices (amount of items or gemstones you have to exchange) will also increase when the item is traded for often. Trades can be done around 4 times before the stock runs out. Villagers will replenish their stock once a day. If an item isn't sold for the price will go down.

Unlocking Trades:

Both players and villager gain experience when they trade. As the villager's skill level increases they can unlock the next level of trades can be unlocked. There are five levels of trades for each villager, which unlocks higher quality items. The level of a villager is displayed by an emblem of color on their clothing, which is a range of Novice(Stone), Apprentice(Iron), Journeyman(Gold), Expert(Emerald) all the way to Master(Diamond).

Wandering Trader

This is somewhat out of the ordinary however, there is a single villager that is different from the others. benga's blog The Wandering Trader is a passive mob that appears randomly across the globe, and with no pattern. It has two trading lamas with leash that are like normal llamas but with a slight cosmetic modification. Another thing that is unique about this Villager is that it has no trading levels, which means the trades you've played with him are the ones you are stuck with. But don't fret the trades he's made will reset when he spawns again.

The trades of the Wandering Trader are often obscure and difficult to find. Although they aren't particularly powerful or impressive, they are still valuable. The Wandering Trader will disappear after 40-60 minutes.

Popularity:

As an individual player, you are able to enjoy a level of popularity. This is decreased by performing negative actions like attacking villagers, but increased by trading often or treating zombie villagers. Negative actions raise prices, while positive actions decrease them.

Let's say your village is attacked in a flurry by Illagers, while you coincidentally happen to be in the area, and you successfully ward off the attack. You will be rewarded with the 'Hero Of The Village' status effect which will further lower prices for trade (except for trades that cost 1 emerald.)

These are the basics of villager jobs and village trading. You should now be able to manage your villager farm with ease! Mojang feels the need to take the carpet off the floor often and, for better or worse, trading in Minecraft is a little more complex with Supply & Demand mechanics, along with the popularity function. You can use these features to aid you, or completely make trading a mess on your Minecraft server. I hope this guide helped you well. Best of luck and I wish you all the best!
